1. The picturesque streets

Walking through the cobbled streets of Saint-Émilion is like stepping back in time. The village has retained its old-world charm, with stone houses, small shady squares and old buildings. Medieval architecture is omnipresent, and every street corner reveals a unique atmosphere.

2. The Collegiate Church and the Monolithic Church

The Monolithic Church is one of the most emblematic sites. Carved into the limestone rock, it is one of the largest underground churches in Europe. You can explore its cavities and admire its surprising architecture, including the nave, cloister and chapel.
The Collegiate Church is another important church in the village, offering breathtaking views over the region and a remarkable interior with frescoes and Gothic features.

3. The ramparts and the Tour du Roy

Saint-Émilion’s ramparts, which surround the historic heart of the village, date back to the Middle Ages. You can walk along these ancient fortifications to get a panoramic view of the village and the surrounding countryside, with its vine-covered hills. The Tour du Roy is another major landmark. It was built in the 13th century to defend the town and provide a strategic view. You can climb to the top of the tower for a spectacular view of the surrounding area.

4. Squares and fountains

Picturesque squares such as Place du Marché and Place de l’Église are great places to stroll. These open spaces, often shaded, are perfect for stopping and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. The fountain in the Place du Marché is also an iconic feature of the village.

5. The Cordeliers Cloister

A little outside the historic centre, the Cloître des Cordeliers is a peaceful site. It once belonged to a Cordeliers monastery and is a great place to recharge your batteries and learn a little about the religious history of the village.

6. Panoramic views

Numerous viewpoints throughout the village offer magnificent views of the surrounding wine-growing countryside. In particular, from the heights of the Place du Cloître, you will have a magnificent view of the vineyards and the valley.
